What could be the reason for the power trip immediately after installation?

In the event of power disruptions shortly after water heater installation, there are generally two possible reasons: Main Power Trip or ELCB (Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker) Trip. The potential causes along with their corresponding solutions for each scenario are as follows:

1. Main Power Trip

Possible Reason 1: The fuse of the switch is overloaded

For example, if a water heater with a power rating of 4.5kW is connected to a switch with a 16A fuse, when the power load exceeds 16A, the main power will trip. A water heater with a power rating of 4.5kW requires a switch with at least a 20A fuse.


Recommended solution:
Kindly arrange for a technician to conduct an inspection and replace the fuse switch with one that can withstand a higher load. Prior to the replacement, it's important to confirm that the total power supply and wiring in your home can accommodate the increased load.

 

Possible Reason 2: Sharing circuits with other electrical appliances

The power switch for the water heater is not on a dedicated circuit but rather shares the same circuit with other appliances. Since the water heater is a high-load appliance, simultaneous operation with other devices can cause a momentary surge in current, leading to the main circuit breaker tripping.

2. ELCB (Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker) Trip

Possible Reason 1: The fuse of the switch is overloaded

After installation, if the water heater's circuit breaker trips or the temperature display remains at room temperature without rising, it is most likely due to improper installation. This could lead to the burning out of the heating element. Overloading due to the damaged heating element can cause a leakage current, triggering the circuit breaker to trip immediately to prevent electrical hazards.

Possible Reason 2: The dedicated circuit using RCCB (Residual Current Circuit Breaker) resulted in power trip

It’s possible that the dedicated circuit in the power panel box uses RCCB which is a switch using built-in leakage current protection. Since our water heaters already have built-in leakage current protection, if the dedicated power circuit also employs one, it could potentially cause interference and lead to abnormal operation.


Recommended solution:
For optimal electrical safety, we recommend having a professional technician conduct an on-site inspection to assess whether it's possible to replace the switch, thus preventing any abnormal operation.



💡 Typically, if the switch is labeled with the word "Test", it signifies that the switch is equipped with a Residual Current Circuit Breaker (RCCB).

Possible
Reason 3: The Storage Water Heater is malfunctioning

The internal components of the storage water heater may be malfunctioning, which could result in a power trip upon starting.
